Barton Johnson

    GREENVILLE – Barton Johnson, 46, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
    The Muhlenberg County native was a member of Power House Church of God in Christ in Greenville. He was a truck driver for Dana Trucking Fleet in Henderson. He also served his country in the Navy for eight year.
    Survivors include his fiance, Tomika Johnson of Greenville; a son, Demond Johnson of Greenville; a daughter, Tineka Bard of Fulton; a brother, David Johnson of Sturgis; three sisters, Mechele Hawkins and Davita Robinson, both of Owensboro and Corretta Ruiz of Drakesboro; his mother, Nettie Mae Johnson of Drakesboro; an uncle; four aunts; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Dec. 28 at Power House Church of God in Christ with the Rev. Samuel Harris officiating. Burial followed in West End Cemetery in Greenville. Bibbs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.



Mary Rebecca "Dutchie" Willis

    GREENVILLE – Mary Rebecca "Dutchie" Willis, 85, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006 at her residence.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Oct. 1, 1921, she was retired from G.E. and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo "Felix" Willis; a son-in-law, John Randolph; three sisters, Rita Sullivan, Grace Matheny and Drucie Fields; and three brothers, Bob Jarvis, Cecil Jarvis and Ray Jarvis.
    Survivors include a son, Alan "Buzz" Willis of Greenville; a daughter, Linda Randolph of Greenville; three grandchildren, Sadonna (Terry) Rose, Bryan (Angie) Randolph and Bill (Angie) Willis; and four great-grandchildren, Seth Randolph, Trevor Randolph, Lucinda Randolph and Isaiah Randolph.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 29 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Neal officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.


James Leslie McCauley

    James Leslie McCauley, 86, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
    Born in Nebraska Dec. 13, 1920, he was a retired coal miner and a lifetime member of VFW in Greenville. He was a member of Sharon General Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran.
    Survivors include three sons, James David (Sue) McCauley of Paducah and George (Tammie) McCauley and Donald (Denise) McCauley, both of Central City; two daughters, Connie (John) Coe of Smyrna, Tenn. and Teresa (Gene) Satterfield of Antioch, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Tara McCauley, Eric Satterfield, Jimmy McCauley, Tylar Coe, Skylar Coe, Chelsie Satterfield and Beth Ann McCauley; a brother, Earl McCauley of California; and a sister, Trudy Smith of Missouri.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Dec. 29 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Evitts and the Rev. Johnny Culbertson officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens in Powderly.


Obba Joines

    DRAKESBORO – Obba Joines, 85, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006 at his residence.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Nov. 15, 1921, he was the son of the late Garfield and Eunice Joines. He was a retired coal miner and a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the Flying Tigers. He was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Joines.
    Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Geneva Knight Joines; four children, Kay (Ronnie) Covington of Belton, Obbie "Butch" (Donna) Joines and Rondel Joines, both of Beech Creek, and Gina Rector of Beechmont; six grandchildren, Tonya Ewing, Shannon Clark, Marla Woodward, Mandi Pierpoint, Chad Rector and Maranda Norris; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Oakley Joines of Beechmont; and a sister, Joyce Stuart of Owensboro.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Dec. 30 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Casebier and the Rev. Travis Fox officiating. Burial followed in Ebenezer Cemetery in Drakesboro.


Sarah Catherine Greene Cohen

    MARYLAND – Sarah Catherine Greene Cohen, 50, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006 at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, Md.
    Born in Harrisburg, Penn. Dec. 6, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Barbara Greene. She most recently worked for the Montgomery County, Md. Public Schools as a media specialist at Poolesville High School. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Edward and Hallie Payne of Greenville.
    Survivors include her husband, Edward Cohen; and a sister, Elizabeth Greene of Wheaton, Md.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Dec. 30 at Gary's Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.


Noble J. Dixon

    ST. CHARLES – Noble J. Dixon, 64, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
    Born in Hopkins County July 20, 1942, he was a retired Lieutenant from Green River Correctional Complex. He was a member of F.O.P Barkley Lodge #60 and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Noble J. Dixon, his mother, Geneva Bloodworth Nixon Bean, a brother and twin daughters.
    Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Suttle of Dawson Springs and Denise Moore of Slaughters; two sisters, Cora Bean and Helen Adams, both of Nortonville; two brothers, William D. Bean of Central City and Rickie Bean of St. Charles; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Dec. 31 at Beshear Funeral Home with the Rev. J.W. Haire and the Rev. Jimmy Moore officiating. Burial followed in Gilland Ridge Cemetery in St. Charles.


Martha Mae Morphew

    BEECH CREEK – Martha Mae Morphew, 77, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County June 8, 1929, she was a homemaker and a member of Browder Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Ellis Morphew.
    Survivors include two sons, Jr. Morphew of Browder and Jerry Wayne Morphew of Beech Creek; a daughter, Martha Joyce Browning; a brother, Bobby McKee of Rochester; three sisters, Jean Hale of Johnson City, Tenn., Brenda Gale Sumner of Bremen and Dru McDaniel of Hannibal, Mo.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 1 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Chambers officiating. Burial followed in Forest Grove Cemetery in Browder.


Myrtle Elizabeth Rowe

    GREENVILLE – Myrtle Elizabeth Rowe, 91, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006 at her granddaughter's home in Greenville.
    Born in Danville, Mo., Aug. 12, 1915, she was an avid gardener and seamstress and a member of the Christian Church in Hayti, Mo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. Rowe, Jr. and a son, Fred W. Rowe III.
    Survivors include a granddaughter, Rebecca (Donald) Baker of Greenville; two grandsons, Fred Win (Vickie) Rowe IV of Greenville and Jonathan Scott (Anetta) Rowe of Winter Haven, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Rowe of Greenville; six great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two step great-great-grandchildren.
    Private services will be held in Florida. Memorials may be sent to Gideon's International or Green River Hospice. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.


Dessie Bowles Simmons

    SACRAMENTO – Dessie Bowles Simmons, 92, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006 at Brighton Cornerstone Nursing Home in Madisonville.
    Born in Hopkins County Feb. 13, 1913, she was a homemaker and a member of Eastern Star and the McLean County Homemakers Club. She was also a member of Towers Chapel United Methodist Church in Sacramento and a member of the UMW. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wheaton Simmons, three sisters and four brothers.
    Survivors include her caregivers, Nora K. Brown and Dr. Terry Brown, both of Hanson and Marjorie Duff of Madisonville; three sisters, Elsie Britt, Selena Murphy and Mary Helen Knapp, all of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 3 at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with the Revs. Doug Pickett and Ken Vincent officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery in Madisonville.


Delbert Wood Toomey

    OWENSBORO – Delbert Wood Toomey, 78, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006 at his residence in Owensboro.
    Born in Gus, Ky. June 2, 1928, he was the son of the late Samuel Allen Toomey and Annie Gertrude Wood Toomey. He was retired from Western Plating Co. in Owensboro and was an Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of Whitesville Church of Christ.
    Survivors include his wife, Willie Myrl Corum Toomey; three daughters, Kathy Carver of Hillsboro, Ore., Debra Toomey of Owensboro and Beverly Considine of Brownsburg, Ind.; two sons, Hal Toomey of Franklin and Alan Toomey of Hartford; a brother, Wilbur Toomey of Greenville; and seven grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 3 at Price Funeral Home, Inc. in Lewisburg with Kenny Payne officiating. Burial will follow in Lewisburg Cemetery in Logan County.
