Charles Augusta "Chalk" Hopkins, Sr.
GREENVILLE – Charles Augusta "Chalk" Hopkins,
Sr. left his earthly tabernacle to seek a higher reward Sunday,
Feb. 4, 2007 after a brief illness.
Born Sept. 27, 1934, he was the son of the
late Abraham and Annie Mae Matthews Hopkins. He attended East
Benham High School and after leaving there joined the United
States Air Force where he was an active member for several years.
Upon returning home from the Air Force, he married Mary Motley
of Benham, Ky. and they had a child. Several years later he
married Minnie Sanders and they had five children. While living
in Cumberland, he accepted Christ and joined Cumberland First
Baptist Church. He then proceeded to join a gospel group, "The
Cumberland Five", and their motto was Lord Have Mercy. He and
his family relocated to several states over the years to seek
employment opportunities and he worked for a number of years
with the International Harvester Company. He resided in Cleveland,
Ohio for more than 40 years. Because of his illness, his last
relocation took him to Greenville, so that his sister, Bettye,
could care for him. He was preceded in death by a sister, Hattie
Mae Harrell, a brother, Abraham Cleophus Hopkins and a son,
Charles Augusta, Jr.
Survivors include two sisters, Bettye L.
(Edgar) Reynolds and Floretta (Steve) Lee-James; a brother,
Donald Hopkins; five children, Charles Arthur (Karen), Joseph
Alexander (China), Darlene Hawkins, Tonya Marie Huggins (Ronald),
Cornelius Clay (Damita) and Theresa Marie; 24 grandchildren;
and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at noon Feb. 7
at Tucker Funeral Home. Burial followed in West End Cemetery
in Greenville.
Patsy
A. Groves
GREENVILLE
– Patsy A. Groves, 69,
died Monday, Jan. 29,
2007 at Muhlenberg Community
Hospital in Greenville.
Born
in Muhlenberg County July
23, 1937, she was a homemaker
and a member of Freedom
Baptist Church in Depoy.
She was preceded in death
by a son, Richard Groves.
Survivors
include her husband, James
D. Groves; a son, Barry
(Holly) Groves of Greenville;
and four grandchildren,
Macy Groves, Jacob Groves,
Carson Groves and Landon
Groves.

– Peggy Sue Taylor Bivin,
74, died Monday, Jan.
29, 2007.

in Muhlenberg County Feb.
2, 1932, she was the former
owner/operator of Bivin
Furniture in Central City
and a member of New Harmony
Baptist Church. She was
preceded in death by her
husband, Keith Bivin,
a son, Duncan Claud Bivin,
her father, Herbert Taylor
and a brother, H.D. Taylor.

Utilities Co. and was

Masonic Lodge. He was

Herbert Ellis.

and was a United States
Army veteran. He was preceded
in death by four brothers,

and Samuel Kennedy and
three sisters, Gola Cash,
Mary Farmer and Betty
Peterson.
