Court meetings will open with prayer By RITA DUKES
Leader-News Editor GREENVILLE — While some have said that prayer changes, it was obvious by the first words spoken at the last Fiscal Court meeting that praying people do change things. “I would like to say a couple things before we get started,” Judge-Executive Rick Newman addressed the packed courtroom. “We’ve had many calls and comments regarding removing prayer from the meetings. If we’ve offended anyone, it was not our intent. It was not our intent to put God on a shelf as some of the articles in the paper have suggested. But we are going to reinstate prayers until some court orders us not to do so.”
