Lady Stars win 3rd Region Championship


North turns back OHS for eighth title in 10 years


    GREENVILLE – In a championship game that featured a stark contrast in styles, it was the superior guard play and perimeter shooting of Muhlenberg North that won out over the interior size and strength of Owensboro.
    Whitney Gaston scored a game-high 20 points and Abby Steele tossed in 18 to help lead the Lady Stars to a thrilling 62-54 win over the Red Devils at Muhlenberg South High School, giving North its second straight 3rd Region title and the 8th championship in 10 years for the dynasty that is Muhlenberg North girls’ basketball.

Apollo edges Muhlenberg North on Little’s tip-in

    LEITCHFIELD – Apollo senior Justin Little tipped in a missed basket during a wild scramble at the final buzzer to give the Eagles a hard-fought 51-49 win over Muhlenberg North in the semifinals of the 3rd Region Tournament at Grayson County High School on Thursday night.
    Apollo (22-9), the defending regional champion and a state tournament finalist last season, will face Owensboro (23-8) in the regional final on Monday night.

Suns fall to Meade Co. 61-37


The Muhlenberg South Suns fell to Meade Co. 61-37 in the opening round of the Third Region tournament March 6 at Meade Co. South’s Richard Carver led the Suns with 12 points.
