Lemuel Howard Stirsman

    Lemuel Howard Stirsman, 83, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County July 10, 1923, he was an executive board member of the Muhlenberg County Baptist Association. He was a member of Central City Masonic Lodge #673 and was retired from ICRR. He was a former Discipleship Training Director at Cherry Hill Baptist Church where he was a member and deacon.
    Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Helen Noffsinger Stirsman of Central City; a son, Jackie (Edith) Stirsman of Central City; two daughters, Debra (Roger) Markwell and Jean Campbell, both of Central City; six grandchildren, Andrew Stirsman, Melissa Gravot, Michael Campbell, Cathy Nolen, Daniel Markwell and Laura Markwell; and six great-grandchildren, Kyler Shuler, Karsen Stirsman, Alexander Gravot, Trevor Nolen, Chandler Stirsman and Sophia Gravot.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. March 23 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Revs. Leroy Rearden and Gene Garner officiating. Burial followed in Cherry Hill Cemetery in Central City.



Chad Lee Ebling

    GREENVILLE – Chad Lee Ebling, 31, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at his residence.
    Born in Muhlenberg County May 4, 1975, he was employed at Tapps Welding and Fabrication in Earlington.
    Survivors include his wife, Tammy Blanchard Ebling; his mother, Rosemary Buck of Beechmont; two brothers, Billy Joe "B.J." Ebling of Lexington and Hunter Buck of Beechmont; and a sister, Heather Buck of Beechmont.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. March 23 at Tucker Funeral Home with  Ferrill Christmas officiating. Burial followed in Cave Springs Cemetery in Greenville.


William Lee "Billy" Jackson

    William Lee "Billy" Jackson, 82, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County March 10, 1925, he was the son of the late Leonard and Lena Belle Fulkerson Jackson. He was a retired coal miner from Brown Badgett, now Arch Coal Inc. and Sub and also worked at Lester Motors in Central City. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Jackson Day.
    Survivors include two nephews, Jack (Mary) Day of Central City and Charles (Nancy) Day of Glascow; several great-nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special friend, Carliss Moore.
    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. March 24 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Ted Everly officiating. Burial followed in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City.


Patsy Ann Davis

    GREENVILLE – Patsy Ann Davis, 55, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
    Born in Owensboro Oct. 22, 1951, she was a homemaker.
    Survivors include her husband, Roy Davis; a son, Eric Davis of Central City; two brothers, Earl Jones of Missouri and Bobby Roth of Big Springs, Ky.; three sisters, Mary Sue Sams of Indianapolis, Ind., Betty Jean Crowe of Fordsville and Nancy Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at noon March 23 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Arnold Harper officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.


Ruby D. Hill

    EVANSVILLE – Ruby D. Hill, 88, died Thursday, March 22, 2007 at her daughter’s home.
    Born in Muhlenberg County, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Hill in 2003 and daughter, Betty Self in 1997.
    Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Chapman of Evansville; a son, William Simmons of Evansville; six grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were private. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Alexander Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Bonita Smith Russ

    EVANSVILLE – Bonita Smith Russ, 85, died Monday, March 12, 2007 at Deaconess Hospital.
    Born in Morgan, Ky. Jan. 1, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Bradley and Bertha Watkins Smith. She was a member of the Pentecostal House of Prayer. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Russ, a son, Gary Russ, a granddaughter, Michelle Gray, a sister, Reatha Mae Stewart, and a brother, Kenneth Smith.
    Survivors include three sons, Jimmie Ray Russ of Newburgh, Douglas Jewell Russ of Kansas City, Kan. and Jerry Russ of Evansville; seven daughters, Glenda Gray of Harrisonville, Mo., Sheila Goodge of Newburgh, and Jean Armes, Sue Cobb, Patty Hamby, Nancy Hall and Teresa Thomas, all of Evansville; 27 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Dorothy Rice-Watkins of Evansville; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. March 15 at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Miller and Miller Colonial Chapel in Evansville. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.


Alexander Hamilton Stewart Cather

    DRAKESBORO – Alexander Hamilton Stewart Cather, 90, died Friday, March 23, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
    Born in Bruceville, Ind. Jan. 6, 1917, he was the son of the late Margaret and D. F. Cather. He was an avid reader, a Civil War historian and a New York Yankees fan. He was a graduate of Hughes-Kirk High School and Western Kentucky University and was a retired school teacher of 37 years, teaching at Central City High School and Browder School. He was a member of the WKU Alumni Association and the Hazel Creek Masonic Lodge #842. He served for four years with the United States Army in Germany during World War II. He was a life member of Drakesboro United Methodist Church where he served in several capacities through the years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Ellen Mohon Cather and a brother, Bill Cather.
    Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Cather of Beech Creek; three sisters, Peggy Cather of Greenville, Sue Simpson of Louisville and Marion Walker of Okeechobee, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. March 26 at Drakesboro United Methodist Church with the Revs. Marty Robertson and Bobby Neal Davis officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Retired Teacher Scholarship Fund, the Drakesboro United Methodist Church or the Muhlenberg County Library. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Hula Mae Latham

    BREMEN – Hula Mae Latham, 87, died Friday, March 23, 2007 at Select Hospital in Evansville.
    Born in Todd County May 18, 1919, she was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Latham, a daughter, Martha Latham, five sisters and two brothers.
    Survivors include three sons, Calvin (Kaye) Latham of Greenville, William Latham and Merle (Anna) Latham, both of Bremen; three daughters, Dorothy Jett of Benton, Bertha Sue Piper of Bremen and Helen (Jr.) Dennis of Evansville; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. March 27 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.


Earl Edward Bratcher

    CLEATON – Earl Edward Bratcher, 77, died Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Owensboro Medical Health System in Owensboro.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Dec. 30, 1929, he was a self-employed mechanic and a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Lee Curtis Bratcher, and two great-grandsons, Joseph Paul Turpen and Keegan Layne Gregory.
    Survivors include his wife, Mary Iona Arnold Bratcher; four sons, Bobby (LaVonda) Bratcher, Tommy Edward Bratcher and Timothy Dale (Sandra) Bratcher, all of Cleaton and Michael Lee (Lisa) Bratcher of Central City; two daughters, Diane (Dallas) Miller of Central City and Brenda Joyce (James) Mayes of Lake Malone; 14 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Bratcher of Drakesboro; and three sisters, Freda Farmer of Powderly, Grace Palminteri of Cicero, Ill. and Lois Browning of Greenville.
    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. March 27 at Tucker Funeral Home with James Neeley and Bob Edlin officiating. Burial followed in Miller Cemetery in Cleaton.


Sarah Mercer Lamb

    Sarah Mercer Lamb, 81, died Saturday, March 24, 2007.
    Born in Central City, Jan. 10, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Albert Jackson and Bess Mercer. She was a graduate of Transylvania University and taught at Central City High School before retiring from the Muhlenberg County School System. She was a life-long active member of the First Christian Church of Central City where she was a Sunday School teacher, member and past president of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She also served as church secretary for many years. She was a member and past president of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), former member of the Muhlenberg County Library Board and former member of the Pennyrile Council of Girl Scouts.  She and her husband, Tom Lamb, owned and operated Donavan’s Drug Store and Clinic Pharmacy for many years. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert Jackson Mercer, Jr., William Claude “Bill” Mercer and Jerry Longest Mercer.
    Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Thomas C. Lamb; five children, Jennybeth (Ron) McRoy of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; Amy (Bob) McCartt of Knoxville, Tenn.; Lee (Joe) Ryser of Goodlettsville, Tenn. and Greg (Trish) Lamb and Steven (Suzanne) Lamb, both of Central City; nine grandchildren, Carter McRoy (Sam) Mogren, Mercer McRoy, Eric McCartt, Matt McCartt, Andrew McCartt, Jackson Lamb, John Thomas Lamb, Hadley Lamb and Nash Lamb.
    Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. March 28 at the Central City First United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. March 28 at the church. Memorial donations may be sent to the Central City First Christian Church or the Central City branch of the Muhlenberg County Public Libraries.
