Greenville woman wakes to find burglar standing over her bed

    A Greenville woman was grabbed from her bed by an intruder early Monday morning after he entered her home searching for money.
    Rosi Buchanan woke up about 3 a.m. and saw a shadow in her hallway.


 


54 animals taken from doctor’s home

    BELTON — The Humane Society of Muhlenberg County seized 54 animals from a local surgeon April 3 and 4 after execution of a search warrant by the Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office.
    Dr. Carl Rosen, a local urologist, entered a plea of not guilty during a court appearance Monday on charges of cruelty to animals.

Judge upholds jury recommendation: Yonts gets 20 years

    The son of a local state Representative was sentenced to 20 years for the hit-and-run murder of a fellow Murray State University student in November 2005.
    Burgess Harrison Yonts, 21, was convicted Feb. 1 of wanton murder, tampering with evidence, leaving the scene of a crime and driving under the influence of alcohol for killing Nadia Shaheen, 62. On Monday, the Calloway Circuit Judge Dennis Foust upheld the jury’s recommendation of a 20-year sentence.


MOTORCYCLE, CAR COLLIDE AT INTERSECTION

Courtney Garrett, 17, of Greenville stands with several of her passengers following an accident in which she turned into the path of Shawn Rossignol, 24, of Central City and he was ejected from his motorcycle after the vehicles collided, according to a CCPD report. He was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, Ind. and was in the Intensive Care Unit Monday night. According to a Central City Police report, Garrett was traveling with Heather Garrett, Abbi Cox, Jaxton Gray and Nicole Gray, no ages or addresses listed. No one in her vehicle was injured. Local EMS technicians and St. Mary’s LifeFlight crew transfer Shawn Rossignol, 24, of Greenville into the helicopter to transport him to their hospital in Evansville, Ind. Rossignol, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from his 2007 Yamaha motorcycle when Courtney Garrett, 17, of Greenville turned into his path while attempting to make a left turn from Everly Brothers Boulevard to South Second Street in Central City, a CCPD report said.
