Kenneth Lee "Ken" Strader

    DRAKESBORO – Kenneth Lee "Ken" Strader, 49, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at his residence following a short illness.
    Born in Elmhurst, Ill. Dec. 17, 1957, he was a heavy equipment operator for Yeiser's Excavating in Utica for 11 years and was of the Catholic faith. He was preceded in death by his father, James Cleveland Strader, Jr. in 2005 and a brother, Jimmy Strader in 1972.
    Survivors include his wife of nine years, Judy Kay Meeks Strader; his mother, Betty Jean Harris Strader of Greenville; two daughters, Lindsey Mercer Strader of Mayfield and Kannitha Mae Strader of Drakesboro; a son, Mitchell Lee Mercer of Cleveland, Tenn.; two step-sons, Brian Neighbors and Alan Neighbors, both of Hartford; a step-daughter, Brandy (Anthony) Shadowen Jones of Beechmont; six grandchildren, Joseph Mercer, Luke Mercer, Kelcey Jones, Harley Jones, Gage Jones and Jordan Neighbors; two sisters, Donna (Eddie) O'Bannon of Belton and Doreen (James) Cain of Greenville; and a brother, Billy Strader of Depoy.
    A funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. April 14 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Central City with Father Benjamin Luther officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Powderly. Prayer services were held at 7 p.m. April 13 at Gary's Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Shadowen officiating.




James Robert "Robbie" Barber

    CALHOUN – James Robert "Robbie" Barber, 35, died Friday, April 6, 2007 at Owensboro Medical Health System in Owensboro.
    Born in Calhoun May 18, 1971, he was a tree trimmer for the Townsend Tree Service and was a member of the Calhoun Baptist Church where he had several friends in the Celebrate Recovery program. He enjoyed fishing, Nascar and hunting. He was preceded in death by his father, Rickie Barber.
    Survivors include his wife, Vicki Lott Barber; a daughter, Jessica Barber; a son, Matthew Johnson; two step-daughters, Jasmine Sorrels and Danielle Lott; a step-son, Anthony Ford; his mother and step-father, Marsha (Donald) Howell of Island; a brother, David Buccanan; a step-brother, David Howell; a step-sister, Erica Howell; and his grandmother, Wanda Davis of Livermore.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. April 9 at the Calhoun Baptist Church with the Rev. Jesse Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the Island Community Cemetery in McLean County. Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Lillian Katherine Sparks Adkins

    GRAHAM – Lillian Katherine Sparks Adkins, 91, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville following a lengthy illness.
        Born in Muhlenberg County Sept. 19, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Milton Sparks and Dove Stovall Sparks of Earles, Ky. She was a 1938 graduate of Graham High School and later worked at General Electric in Owensboro for four years during World War II. She was a homemaker, housewife and a member of Yeargins Chapel Methodist Church where she served as Sunday school secretary for more than 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Alton Mack Adkins on May 27, 1993.
    Survivors include two daughters, Joan Kay (Stewart) Noble of Kingman, Ariz. and Loretta Ann (Gene) Curry of Graham; a son, Morris (Theresa) Adkins of Depoy; six grandchildren, Jed (Melissa) Noble, Josh (Denell) Noble and Jordan Noble, all of Kingman, Marcus (Amy) Adkins of Greenville, Kellye (Andy) Tapp of Madisonville and Gennifer Macy (Rick) Martin III of Hopkinsville; and six great-grandchildren, Jackson Noble, Sky Noble and Abby Noble, all of Kingman, Logan Adkins and Kendall Adkins, both of Greenville, and Kayla Ann Martin of Hopkinsville.
    Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. April 14 at Gary's Funeral Home with the Revs. Carl Sparks and Mike Pitzer officiating. Burial followed in Yeargins Chapel Cemetery.


Jeremiah "Uncle Jerry" Caudill

    BREMEN – Jeremiah "Uncle Jerry" Caudill, 75, died Friday, April 13, 2007 at his residence.
    Born in Perry County, Ky. Oct. 19, 1931, he was a self-employed retired carpenter and was a member of the Central City Church of Christ.
    Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hill Caudill; three sons, Gary Caudill and Perry Caudill, both of Dayton, Ohio and Jerry Allen Caudill of Nashville, Tenn.; a step-son, William Worthington of Evansville; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Dan Caudill of Gulfport, Miss.; and a sister, Oma Sizemore of Hyden, Ky.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. April 15 at Tucker Memorial Chapel with Mr. James Neeley officiating. Burial followed in Bethlehem Cemetery in Bremen.



Thomas "Tommy" Baxter

    FAIRVIEW, KY – Thomas "Tommy" Baxter, 66, died Friday, April 13, 2007 at his residence of natural causes.
    Born in Charleston, Ky. June 18, 1940, he was the son of the late Eliot Vernon and Essie Mae Nugent Baxter. He was in Quality Control for Mitsubishi of Hopkinsville, a United States Army veteran and was a member of the New Cedar Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Killebrew.
    Survivors include his wife, Aline Baxter; three sons, Michael Dale Brown of Elkton, Timothy Bryan Baxter of Crofton and Patrick Donavan Baxter of Beechmont; a daughter, Michelle Wilson of Fairview; two sisters, Dorothy Palmer of Hopkinsville and Sue Munoz of Clarksville; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. April 16 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with the Revs. Tommy Wilhite and Ron Noffsinger officiating. Burial will follow in New Cedar Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the New Cedar Grove Baptist Church Building, 142 Crawford Rd., Elkton, KY 42220.


Marcia Gail Arnold Vaught

    SOUTH CARROLLTON – Marcia Gail Arnold Vaught, 49, died Friday, April 13, 2007 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Sept. 2, 1957, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
    Survivors include two daughters, Sonja Hill of South Carrollton and Teresa Smith of Cleaton; five grandchildren; five brothers, Brian Arnold and Danny Arnold, both of Cleaton, Mark Arnold and Tony Arnold, both of Central City and Cecil Arnold of South Carrollton; and three sisters, Penny Anderson of Central City and Tina Nannie and Tammy Ewing, both of Cleaton.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. April 17 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. T. H. Davis officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
   


Linnie M. Harkins

    BINGHAMTON, N. Y. – Linnie M. Harkins, 90, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at Bridgewater Nursing Home.
    She was an employee of F.W. Woolworth for 56 years and retired at the age of 82 when the last nationwide store was closed in Louisville. She was preceded in death by her husband, U.C. Harkins in 1944, and four siblings, Alice Drucilla, Etoyahl Walker, Jones Emil and Jimmie Whitescarver.
    Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Decker of Binghamton, N. Y.; a brother, Joe Walker of Plymouth, Ind.; Virginia Walker of Hopkinsville; several nieces and nephews; and many extended family members.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. April 25 at Gary's Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Mooneyhan officiating. Burial will follow in the Lee Family Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be held after 1 p.m. April 25 at the funeral home.
