Leader-News Staff Writer reporter@ky-leadernews.com Restaurant patrons in Central City will pay an additional 3 percent tax on their meals if the second reading of a new restaurant ordinance passes the Central City council during a special meeting May 16. “It is a three percent transit tax,” said Mayor Jerry Mitchell. “The restaurant owners don’t pay it. They pass it along to their customers. So if you went to a restaurant and previously paid 6 percent tax on your dinner, now you will pay 9 percent.” ‘Ripe for the picking’ ![]() Dayton White of Twin Oak Drive in Greenville may be the earliest person in the area to enjoy a ripe tomato grown in his home garden. White, above, said the plant was part of an arrangement a friend had sent to his wife’s funeral in February. He took the potted tomato plant outside on sunny days and then back indoors at night since February. He recently transplanted it to his garden spot, and was surprised the blooms not only stayed on but a tomato soon appeared. On May 8, White picked the tomato, shown inset, and had it with his dinner.
