Sara Louise Watkins

    Sara Louise Watkins, 44, died Sunday, May 13, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Sept. 20, 1963, she was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
    Survivors include her husband, Carl Lee Watkins of Central City; two sons, Carl Lee Watkins, Jr. and Kirk Lee Watkins, both of Central City; a daughter, Vanessa Watkins of Central City; and three brothers, Freddie Baker of Central City, and Fred Baker and Ronnie Baker, both of Owensboro.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. May 19 at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Otis Cunningham officiating. Burial followed in West End Cemetery in Greenville. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.



Jimmy L. Austin

    Jimmy L. Austin, 49, died Monday, May 14, 2007 at his residence in Central City.
    Born in Muhlenberg County July 12, 1957, he was the son of the late Albert and Lillie Austin. He was a timber cutter. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mahala Martin and Eva McPherson.
    Survivors include a daughter, Shana Austin of Henderson; six brothers, Albert Austin of Totz, Ky., Tom Austin of Drakesboro, Ed Austin, Tommy Austin and Raymond Austin, all of Nelson Creek, and Mack Austin of Beech Creek; four sisters, Ima Jean Johnson of Florida, Jeanette Boggess of Central City, Clara Gregory of Union City, Tenn. and Betty Vaught of Nelson Creek; and his care giver, Martha Ford of Central City.
    Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. May 17 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Revs. Donnie Wilkins and Tim Adcock officiating. Burial followed in Ebenezer Cemetery in Drakesboro.


Freddie Gene Smith

    DRAKESBORO – Freddie Gene Smith, 47, died Monday, May 14, 2007 at his residence.
    Born in Muhlenberg County March 25, 1960, he was the son of the late Billy and Myrtle Smith. He was a log grader and truck driver and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Magdoline Smith.
    Survivors include two daughters, Ashley Smith of Drakesboro and Brandy Smith of Central City; two special children, Kemica Arnold and James Michael Robinson; two brothers, Ricky (Brenda) Smith of Smyria, Tenn. and James (Trina) Smith of Portland, Tenn.; a half-brother, Billy (Crissy) Smith of Cleaton; a sister, Freida (Billy) Vaughn of Drakesboro; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. May 17 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Brooks officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.


Justin Matthew Griffin

    BREMEN – Justin Matthew Griffin, 3-months and 24-days old, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Jan. 21, 2007, survivors include his parents, Jason Griffin and Jennifer Smith of Bremen. He has two sisters, Hannah Griffin and Abigail Griffin, both of Bremen; grandparents, James and Terri Griffin of Bremen and Marlene and Darrel Smith of Drakesboro; and a great-grandmother, Betty Griffin of Paducah.
    Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. May 18 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City with the Rev. Curtis McGehee officiating. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Robert Louis Holt

    STURGIS – Robert Louis Holt, 54, died Monday, May 14, 2007 in a single car accident on Manitou Road in Hopkins County.
    Born in Evansville Feb. 21, 1953, he owned and operated Holt's clothing store in Greenville for 27 years. He served on the Pennyroyal Mental Health board, was a former Kiwanis Club president, elder of First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, a Sunday school teacher and he was a Boy Scout troop committee chairman. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Cecil Holt.
    Survivors include Laura Holt of Greenville; two sons, Heath (Danielle) Holt of of Mililani, Hawaii and Ben (Martha) Holt of Galesburg, Ill.; a daughter, Suzanne Holt of Greenville; his mother, Kathleen "Kay" Ringo Holt of Sturgis; and three brothers, Tom Holt and Phillip Holt, both of Sturgis, and David Holt of Morganfield.
    Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. May 18 at First Presbyterian Church in Greenville with the Rev. Gene Thompson officiating. Graveside services were held at 7 p.m. May 18 at Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis. Gary's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Arthur Austin Groves

    GREENVILLE – Arthur Austin Groves, Sr., 99, died Thursday, May 17, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
    Born Oct. 16, 1907, he was the son of the late Sylvanas Groves and Mary Nellie Cassandra Stewart Groves. He was a founder and charter member of the Freedom Baptist Church and a member of the John T. Carndell Masonic Lodge. He graduated from the Stamps-Baxter School of Music in 1942 and taught numerous singing schools at churches inside and outside the western Kentucky area. He was lead singer for the Graham Quartet, who traveled thousands of miles from Mississippi to Canada to bring the gospel through their music to all who heard them. The Graham Quartet was one of the first quartets to be invited by Wally Fowler to appear on WSM's "All Night Singing" when it began. They sang regularly with the Speer Family, the Blackwood Brothers, the John Daniel Quartet, Wally Fowler and the Oak Ridge Boys, the Jordanaires and the Happy Goodman Family. He was also a farmer and a sawmill owner. He was preceded in death by a son, Jewell L. Groves and three grandchildren.
    Survivors include his wife of 79 years, Anna Mae Peavler Groves; five children, Arthur (Betty) Groves, Jr. of Greenville, Billy Ray (Mary) Groves of Bowling Green, Nellie Jane Beasley, James Daniel (Patsy) Groves and Linda (Clyde) Piper of Greenville; a daughter-in-law, Doris Groves of Greenville; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. May 20 at Freedom Baptist Church in Depoy with the Revs. Jeffrey Groves, Terry Groves and Jerry Wright officiating. Burial followed in Freedom Baptist Church Cemetery. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Thomas W. Brown

    Thomas W. Brown, 82, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
    Born in Hancock County May 27, 1924, he was the son of the late John and Cova Young Brown. He graduated from Pellville High School in 1942 and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was employed as an auto mechanic in Hawesville in his younger years and later worked for many years as staff manager for Lincoln Income Life Insurance and retired. He also retired from Tennessee Valley Authority Paradise Plant in Drakesboro. He also managed, with his wife, Mary, the Kentucky Grill for approximately nine years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 1/2 years, Mary Carmen Brown, on April 5, 2007, and a brother, Milner S. Brown.
    Survivors include two daughters, Sheilda Rutledge of Madisonville and Debra (Ron) Lear of Central City, who were her loving caregivers for 4 1/2 years; two grandchildren, Carrie Dutten and Vernon La Roche; three great-grandchildren, Angel La Roche, Jasmine La Roche and William Matheny; a brother, Russell (Thelma) Brown; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Brown; two nieces, Ramanda Towery and Karen Henry; and three nephews, Van Brown, Gary Brown and Richard Brown.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. May 20 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Jewell Martin officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.   


Alfred June Forsythe

    PENROD – Alfred June Forsythe, 86, died Friday, May 18, 2007 at Maple Manor Healthcare in Greenville.
    Born in Quality Jan. 26, 1921, he was the son of the late Ambrose and Elsie Bowers Forsythe. He was a retired farmer and retired from Federal Cement Products in Hammond, Ind. He was an Army veteran. He was preceded in death by a brother, U.M. Forsythe and a sister, Ella Forsythe.
    Survivors include several cousins.
    Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. May 21 at Union Cemetery in Butler County with the Rev. Randall Forsythe officiating. Price Funeral Home, Inc. in Lewisburg was in charge of arrangements.


Richard Dink Simpson

    OWENSBORO – Richard Dink Simpson, 57, died Thursday, May 17, 2007 at the V.A. Medical Center in Louisville.
    A native of Central City, he was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War where he received numerous commendations including the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was also a member of the 101st and 82nd Airborne Units. He was preceded in death by his parents, LT and Freda, and a brother, Rusty.
    Survivors include a daughter, Lynne'a Simpson of Louisville; six brothers, Forest (Katie) of Aurora, Colo., Lawrence (Ann) and Norman (Martha), all of Owensboro, and Walter, Frankie (Kathy) and Roy; two sisters, Maudell (Thomas) Hopkins and Freda (Al) Dixon, all of Louisville; and his longtime companion, Denise Phillips of Louisville. He was a beloved grandfather and uncle to many, all of whom he loved dearly.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. May 21 at Evergreen Funeral Home in Louisville. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville.


Bailey Adell Green

    GRAHAM – Bailey Adell Green, 97, died Thursday, May 17, 2007 at Maple Manor Healthcare in Greenville following a lengthy illness.
    Born in White City, Ky. March 5, 1910, she was the last daughter of 10 children born to the late William Henry Groves and Frankie Fannie Hall Groves. She was a homemaker and houswife and a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, the Rev. Woodburn Bryant Green Sept. 8, 1972.
    Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Green of Graham, Ruthell Duvall of Mortons Gap and Clara Faye Divine of Bremen; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.
    Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. May 19 at Yeargins Chapel Cemetery in Graham with the Rev. Terry Groves officiating. Gary's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Terry Grant Moore

    Terry Grant Moore, 65, died Thursday, May 17, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville following a lengthy illness.
    Born in Central City March 25, 1942, he was the son of Ruby Moore of Central City and the late Grady Moore. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby "Bud" Moore and a son, Bryant Keith Reynolds.
    Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Ernie Mae Fraze Moore; a son, Terry Grant "Runt" Allen of Bremen; three daughters, Michelle Mack of Munster, Ind., Telina Quintanilla of Kennesaw, Ga. and Shannon Houle of Central City; 11 grandchildren, Raven, Elizabeth, Celina, Terry G. Jr., Ashley, Tisha, Nathan, Andrew, Jacob, Noah and Clarice; and a brother, Glendon Moore of Collieerville, Tenn.
    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. May 21 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis McGehee officiating. Burial followed in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City.


Hular Barrow, Jr.

    DRAKESBORO – Hular Barrow, Jr., 63, died Sunday, May 20, 2007 at Methodist Hospital in Henderson.
    Born in Muhlenberg County March 3, 1944, he was a retired school teacher and a member of Union Chapel General Baptist Church.
    Survivors include a brother, D.H. Barrow of Missouri; four sisters, Anna Mae Brown of California, Edna Myrl Allen of Drakesboro, Wilda Mann of Cleaton and Jerouline Williams of Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. May 23 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Revs. Bobby Allen and Travis Fox officiating. Burial followed in Rochester Cemetery in Rochester.


Walter James Gothard

    GREENVILLE – Waltere James Gothard, 65, died Monday, May 21, 2007 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
    Born in Harlan, Ky., Feb. 14, 1942, he was a truck driver, a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a Navy veteran.
    Survivors include his wife,  Shirley Howard Gothard; four daughters, Cynthia Crawley of Tennessee, Patricia Gothard and Martha Helwig, both of Pennsylvania, and Rebecca Jarvis of Greenville; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Bocchi of Maryland and Shirley Doepel of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. May 23 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Skipworth officiating. Burial followed in Gibson Cemetery in Gibson, Ky.


 Wanda Ruth Tippett

    MADISONVILLE – Wanda Ruth Tippett, 69, died Monday, May 21, 2007 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Sept. 26, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Gladys Gootee. She was a housewife. She was a Christian from an early age and was a member of various churches over the years.
    Survivors include her husband of 51 years, John Henry Tippett; a son, John Michael Tippett of Belton; a daughter, Sandra L. McGee of Hopkinsville; three grandchildren and an adopted grandson; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
    Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. May 24 at Tucker Funeral Home. No flowers should be sent. Do an "act of kindness" in Wanda's name.
