Jean F. Lipe

    Jean F. Lipe, 65, of Central City, died Monday, May 28 in the Western Baptist Hospital as the result of an accident.
    Born in Greenville Aug. 14, 1941, she was the daughter of the late George Edward Garrett and Melda Corinne Heltsley Garrett. She worked in produce sales for Wetterau for 17 years and Central City Produce for three years. She was presently working for Clarks Restaurant Service. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville.
    Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Joe Lipe; a daughter, Teresa McRoy Wooten of Fredericksburg, Va.; a son, Linden (Debra) Lipe III of Central City; four grandchildren, Peyton Cole Lipe, Ally Heflin, Peyton Garrett Lipe and Lindey Jo Lipe; and a brother, James Howard (Judy) Garrett of Chandler, Ind.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. May 31 at Second Baptist Church with Dr. Ray England and the Rev. Bob Thurman officiating. Burial followed in Friendship Cemetery in Greenville. Gary's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Margaret Ruth Greenwood

    GREENVILLE – Margaret Ruth Greenwood, 85, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville following a sudden illness.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Nov. 2, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Billy Williams and Daisy Brooks Williams. She was a homemaker and a member of Jernigan's Chapel Methodist Church in Greenville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Greenwood, and three brothers.
    Survivors include five step-children; a sister, Eva Nell Williams of Drakesboro; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. June 1 at Gary's Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Pitzer officiating. Burial followed in Friendship Cemetery in Greenville. Gary's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Gwyneth Nell Deering

    Gwyneth Nell Deering, 90, of Central City, died Sunday, May 27, 2007 at St. Anthony's Hospice in Crown Point, Ind.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Feb. 1, 1917, she was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
    Survivors include a son, James D. (Maxie) Deering, Jr. of Winterville, Ga.; a daughter, Sarah F. (Kenneth) Capps of Lowell, Ind.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. June 1 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernest Bean officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.


"H.C." Epley

    GREENVILLE – "H.C." Epley, 68, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Dec. 16, 1938, he was a retired insurance agent and a member of Duvall's Chapel General Baptist Church in Greenville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lynn Epley.
    Survivors include a son, Kevin (Melissa) Epley of Greenville; a daughter, Dr. Sondra Epley of Richmond, Va.; a grandson, Ethan Epley; two step-grandchildren, Matthew Moore and Hanna Moore; a brother, Bobby (Belva) Epley of Philpot; and a sister, Joyce (Coley) Guy of Powderly.
    Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. June 1 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis Yarbrough officiating. Burial followed in Green's Chapel Cemetery in Greenville.


James Edward Reed

    James Edward Reed, 75, of Central City, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at Owensboro Medical Health System in Owensboro.
    Born in Martin County, Ky. Nov. 10, 1931, he was the son of the late James "Cap" and Gladys Shannon Reed. He retired after 31 years of service with General Motors and was an Army veteran of the 101st Airborne, serving in the Korean War. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lis Reed; a son, Kenny Reed; and a grandson, Joshua Reed.
    Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Reed; two sons, Daryl Reed of Owensboro and Steven Reed of Bremen; four daughters, Donna Evitts of Central City, Connie Singer of Owensboro, Mary Pochiba of Versailles and Wende Vincent of Bremen; two sisters, Betty See and Sackie Lemaster, both of Lousia, Ky.; 17 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. June 1 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Revs. Keith Avery and Chris Pochiba officating. Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery in Moorman.


Barbara Nell Horn Cramer

    GREENVILLE – Barbara Nell Horn Cramer, 77, died Thursday, May 31, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County June 21, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Eura Monroe and Vera E. Bivins Horn. She was a homemaker and a former member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Greenville, Church of Blessed Fellowship in Albion, N.J. and New Brooklyn United Methodist  Church in Williamstown, N.J. After returning to Muhlenberg County in 1986, she attended Duvall's Chapel General Baptist Church and Leigh's Chapel General Baptist Church. During the last few years of her life she was unable to attend church due to her health. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Glen Horn; a sister, Nancy Carroll Horn Lee; and a nephew, Timothy Mark Lee.
    Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Horace William Cramer; two daughters, Keren Cramer and Sharon Cramer, both of Greenville; four nephews; two nieces, eight great-nephews, three great-nieces; three great-great-nephews; and two great-great-nieces.
    Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. June 3 at Luzerne General Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Wright officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Greenville. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Martha C. Harris

    POWDERLY – Martha C. Harris, 88, died Friday, June 1, 2007.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Dec. 8, 1918, she was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Bremen.
    Survivors include two sons, Arkley Stewart of Owensboro and Jerry Harris of Bowling Green; a daughter, Barbara Leibfreid of Owensboro; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. June 5 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Reynolds officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Bremen. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the American Heart Association.


Justin Ryan Pruden

    DRAKESBORO – Justin Ryan Pruden, 19, died Sunday, June 3, 2007 in Muhlenberg County as the result of an automobile accident.
    Born in Dunbar, N.C. Feb. 1, 1988, he was the son of the late Jamie Pruden who died June 26, 2003 and Vickie Pruden who died Aug. 24, 2006. He had been employed in heating and air conditioning.
    Survivors include his wife, Jessica E. Pruden; two brothers, Jason Pruden of Beechmont and Cameron Thompson of North Carolina; and a sister, April Pruden of Beechmont.
    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. June 7 at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will follow in Church of Christ Cemetery in Muhlenberg County. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. June 6 and after 9 a.m. June 7 at the funeral home.


Joe Mitchell

    CALDWELL COUNTY – Joe Mitchell, 68, died Sunday, June 3, 2007 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
    Born in Caldwell County Nov. 21, 1938, he was the son of the late Loyd Peyton Mitchell and Lena Rowland Mitchell. He was a retired coal miner and a member of Southside Baptist Church.
    Survivors include his wife, Robbie Dillingham Mitchell; two sons, Mark P. Mitchell of Louisville and Phillip Mitchell of Princeton; three grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Ortt of Hopkinsville, June Boren of Cadiz and Janet Richardson of Crofton; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. June 6 at Morgan's Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Morse Cemetery.


Helen Louise Sheets

    SACRAMENTO – Helen Louise Sheets, 75, died Monday, June 4, 2007 at her residence.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Feb. 25, 1932, she was a housewife.
    Survivors include her husband, Roy E. Sheets; three daughters, Mary Carter of Sturgis, Helen Scalf of Sacramento and Karen Manning of Ponce DeLeon, Fla.; three sons, Roy C. Sheets of Calhoun, Tommy Sheets of Bremen and Paul Sheets of Sacramento; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. June 6 at Tucker Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Heaven's Gate Cemetery in Sacramento.
