Sherrol Ray Jennings

    GRAHAM – Sherrol Ray Jennings, 68, died Monday, June 4, 2007 at his residence.
    Born in Muhlenberg County June 27, 1938, he was a retired coal miner and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Jennings.
    Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Brenda Stewart Jennings; a grandchild; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Joe Jennings of Greenville; two sisters, Menita Lee of Graham and Judith Miller of Dawson Springs; and a niece.
    Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. June 7 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Brooks officiating. Burial followed in Graham Hill Cemetery in Graham.



Charlotte Ann Lear

    POWDERLY – Charlotte Ann Lear, 67, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at Baptist Select Hospital in Nashville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Dec. 18, 1939, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Alton Lear; a brother, Wayne Stanley; and a sister, Geraldine Stanley.
    Survivors include two sons, Allan Whirley and Gary (Denise) Pierce, both of Greenville; three grandchildren, Jarrod Whirley, Jacob Pierce and Cain Pierce; her mother, Mary Ann Stanley of Greenville; three brothers, Ray Stanley of Graham, Glen Stanley and Marty Stanley, both of Greenville; and two sisters, Gloria Stamps of Greenville and Joan Johnson of Willington, Ill.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. June 8 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Wright officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.


Roy Haley

    GRAHAM – Roy Haley, 87, died Thursday, June 7, 2007 at Muhlenberg  Community Hospital in Greenville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County March 26, 1920, he was the son of the late Bob Haley and Sally Foster Haley. He was a retired UMWA coal miner who worked for Peabody Coal Company and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a sister, Parlee Haley and two brothers, Brooks Haley and Chester Haley.
    Survivors include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
    Funeral services were private with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Gary's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Edward Thomas Whitmer, Jr.

    BREMEN – Edward Thomas Whitmer, Jr., 78, died Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at his residence.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Aug. 9, 1928, he was the son of the late Tommy and Sally Whitmer. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Teamsters Local 215 in Evansville, Ind. He enjoyed training and racing thoroughbred horses for more than 30 years. He was preceded in death by two sons, Teddy Dean and Ricky; a daughter, Tracy Whitmer; five brothers; four sisters; and two grandchildren.
    Survivors include four sons, Tony Whitmer of Henderson, Tommy Whitmer, Eddie Whitmer and Donald Whitmer, all of Evansville; five daughters, Diana Peters and Tonya Habbe, both of Florida, Gail Turnbloom and Tina Winstead, both of Evansville, and Kristi Whitmer of Greenville; his ex-wife, Cindy Whitmer of Bremen; 26 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donnie Whitmer of Bremen and Bennie Whitmer of Kentucky; and a sister, Joyce Martin of Evansville.
    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. June 9 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Revs. Bob Nall and Gary Whitworth officiating. Burial followed in Briar Creek Cemetery in Bremen.



Zechariah Robert Schuman

    COLUMBUS, GA. – Zechariah Robert Schuman, 5, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at the Eggleston Children's Hospital in Atlanta.
    Born in Killeen, Texas Jan. 3, 2002, he is survived by his mother, Melinda Anne Schuman of Columbus; a sister, Alexis Schuman of Columbus; his grandparents, Pat and Morrine Cox of Greenville and Eldon and Xiomara Schuman of Atlanta; and aunts and uncles, Rachel and Maurice Marshall and Chris Schuman, all of Greenville.
    Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. June 12 at New Paradise Baptist Church with the Revs. Tim Adcock and Derrick Benton officiating. Burial followed in Friendship Cemetery in Greenville. Gary's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.



Betty Jane Yates Green

    OWENSBORO – Betty Jane Yates Green, 63, died Thursday, June 7, 2007 at her residence.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Oct. 30, 1943, she was self-employed and was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Clyde Yates in February 2004; two  brothers, Benny Yates in March 1985 and Bobby Yates in December 1994; and a sister, Lillian Hall in November 1986.
    Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Jim Green; four daughters, Tresa Wells of Owensboro, Kathy Atherton of Calhoun and Sandy Settles and Connie Leonard, both of Utica; a son, Brad Green of Owensboro; her mother, Mabel Yates of Greenville; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. June 10 at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial followed in New Cypress Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Muhlenberg County. Hazel "Lucille" McPherson Boston

    BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – Hazel "Lucille" McPherson Boston, 90, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at her residence.
    Born on the McPherson farm in Todd County, she was the daughter of the late Hazel Baker "H.B." McPherson and Bunnie McPherson and grew up in Greenville. She graduated from WKU and taught third-grade for five years. She then took a secretary's position with a tax consultant in Louisville. Ten years later she met and married the late Judge George Boston and moved to Bowling Green. She was active in the First Christian Church on State Street and in the BGWC  Women's Club. Following her husband's death in March 2005 after 51 years of marriage, she relocated to Birmingham to be closer to her son and his family.
    Survivors include a son, Tom (Sheri) Boston of Birmingham; four granddaughters, Mi'lia, Shelby, Lucy Ann and Katie Beth; and a sister, Dorothy Hartley of Sunnyvale, Calif.
    Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. June 9 at J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel in Bowling Green. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery in Bowling Green. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Heart Association, 1212 Ashley Circle, Suite 1, Bowling Green, KY 42104.


Maretta Mae Goff

    BELTON – Maretta Mae Goff, 66, died Friday, June 8, 2007 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Feb. 2, 1941, she was a retired hair dresser and a member of Browder General Baptist Church in Browder. She was preceded in death by her father, the Rev. David Martin.
    Survivors include her husband, Bobby Goff; four sons, Danny (Beverly) Goff, Teddy (Vickie) Goff, David (Tammy) Goff and Lee Goff, all of Belton; eight grandchildren, Jayla (Eugene) Beadnell, Farrah Goff, Colby Goff, Magnum Goff, Tristan Goff, Bronson Goff, Dylan Goff and Keaton Goff; two step-grandchildren, Dustin Basham and Jarrod Richards; a great-grandchild, Dawson Beadnell; two step-great-grandchildren, Jacob Richards and Kathem Richards; her mother, Ina Mae Martin of Belton; and four brothers, Charles (Joann) Martin of Hatfield, Ind., Bill (Sharon) Martin of Greenville, and Dennis (Vickie) Martin and Jimmy (Trilla) Martin, both of Belton.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. June 12 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Revs. Tom Carroll and J.W. Haire officiating. Burial followed in Union Chapel Cemetery in Muhlenberg County.


Billy Gott

    CLEATON – Billy Gott, 69, died Friday, June 8, 2007 following a brief illness.
    Born Aug. 2, 1937, he was an active member of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Cleaton for more than 40 years, singing in the senior and ensemble choir and was chairman of the trustee board. He was a retired coal miner from Gibraltar Coal Co. after 20 years and was an employee for Ray Lam Sales Company for 12 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Gott and Lucy Gott, and a brother, Homer Gott.
    Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Phyllis Gott; a son, David Gott of Central City; two daughters, Ramona Bard and Debra Martin, both of Central City; two brothers, Gene Gott of Terre Haute, Ind. and Robert Gott of Cleaton; five sisters, Eva Mae Clayton, Eunice Osborne and Ora Lee Thompson, all of Evansville, Linda Bard of Greenville and Helen C. Gott of Cleaton; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a step-grandchild; and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
    Homegoing celebration services were held at 1 p.m. June 12 at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Cleaton. Burial followed in West End Cemetery in Greenville. Bibbs Funeral Home in Greenville was in charge of arrangements.


Ruby Nell McDonald

    PUNTA GORDA, FLA. – Ruby Nell McDonald, 86, formerly of Greenville, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte, Fla.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Jan. 14, 1921, she was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Praise and Worship Assembly in Elkhart, Ind. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward McDonald and a son, Fred Durham.
    Survivors include three sons, Danny Durham and Larry (Judy) McDonald, both of Punta Gorda, Fla. and Steve McDonald of Muncie, Ind.; nine grandchildren, Laura Selvey, Eric McDonald, Christopher Rawlings, Gina McDonald, Renee Powell, David Durham, Dale Durham, Dean Durham and Danny Durham; and several great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. June 16 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Dickson officiating. Burial will follow in Nebo Cemetery in Nebo. Visitation will held at 9 a.m. June 16 at the funeral home.
