Lillian Irene Martin

    GLASGOW – Lillian Irene Martin, 93, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at T.J. Sampson Hospital in Glasgow.
    A Muhlenberg County native, she was the daughter of the late J. W. and Fela Whitmar Browning. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy D. Martin and a son, Robert Leon Martin.
    Survivors include a son, James Martin of Glasgow.
    Graveside services were held at noon June 28 at Corley Chapel Cemetery in Greenville. Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel, Cave City was in charge of arrangements.




Tina Rager Scott

    DRAKESBORO – Tina Rager Scott, 60, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County May 16, 1947, she was a homemaker.
    Survivors include her husband, Denny Scott; two sons, Paul Rager of Belton and Wesley Rager of Browder; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Smith and Elmer Smith, both of Drakesboro; and two sisters, Elsie Hocker and Hilda Colburn, both of Drakesboro.
    Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. June 29 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. T.H. Davis officiating. Burial followed in Miller Cemetery in Cleaton.


Mary "Rosina" Owens

    SHEPHERDSVILLE – Mary "Rosina" Owens, 59, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007.
    Born March 16, 1948, she was an environmentalist for Jewish Medical Center South and a member of Little Flock Baptist Church.
    Survivors include her husband, Michael Owens; two sons, Tony Curtis and Lee D. Owen; a daughter, Joyce M. Decker; her parents, Mary and Henry Hendricks; a sister, Lynette Reynolds; two brothers, Robert Hendricks and Kenneth Hendricks; six grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
    Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. June 30 at Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home in Shepherdsville. Burial followed in Louisville Memorial Gardens West.


Warren Knight

    POWDERLY – Warren Knight, 86, died Friday, June 29, 2007 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
    Born July 21, 1920 in Butler County, he was the son of the late Ophas "O.A" Knight and Vernie Penrod Knight. He was a retired chicken farmer, sold eggs and attended Duvall's Chapel Baptist Church. He played in two professional baseball games before a mine accident at the age of 20. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Wilma Jean Bethel Knight Dec. 22, 2006.
    Survivors include a brother, Thurman (Wanda) Knight of Central City; a nephew, Steve (Sheila) Casebier of Central City; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. July 2 at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Ken Miller officiating. Burial followed in Nebo Cemetery in Nebo.


Sarah Ann Vincent Whitmer

    BEECHMONT – Sarah Ann Vincent Whitmer, 84, died Sunday, July 1, 2007 at her residence.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Sept. 26, 1922, she was a retired school teacher and attended Central City Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Whitmer; a stepson, Richard Whitmer; three brothers; four sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
    Survivors include two sisters, Irean Hughes of Indiana and Sue Mohon of Beechmont; several nieces and nephews; and a special, caring friend, Phillip Meister.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. July 3 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Roger Banks officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.


Brenda Lou Johnson

    CHARLESTOWN, IND. – Brenda Lou Johnson, 67, died Saturday, June, 2007 at Jewish Hospital.
    Born in Beech Creek Jan. 14, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Weck and Millie Roberson. She was a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church in Jeffersonville, Southern Indiana Bluegrass Association, where she played upright bass and piano. She was a Kentucky Colonel and enjoyed bird watching and gardening. She was a retired employee of the Sellersburg Branch of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. She was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Roberson and a sister, Anna Sue Rust.
    Survivors include her husband, Ed Johnson; three sons, Edwin Dewayne Johnson and fiance, Mona, of Louisville, John (Khristy) Johnson and Tony (Lisa) Johnson, both of Charlestown; five sisters, Joyce McGehee of Greenville, Jane Johnson and Doris Bowers, both of Beechmont, Ella Dean Carden of Crofton and Linda Staples of Beech Creek; a brother, Reggie Roberson of Browder; five grandchildren, Brandi (Mike) French, Adam Bowling, Kassandra, Trevor and Logan Johnson; and a great-grandson, Ethan French.
    Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. July 3 at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown. Burial followed in Crace Cemetery.


Bernice Lorelle Massey

    Bernice Lorelle Massey, 92, of Central City, died Saturday, June 30, 2007 at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County June 1, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Lyttle M. Winn and T. B. Winn. She graduated from Greenville High School and attended Bowling Green Business University. Her husband, F.E. Massey, predeceased her in 1972, and they owned businesses in Central City throughout their lives. She was a charter member of the Lioness Club, member of the Central City County Club and the First Christian Church.
    Survivors include her caregiver companion, Ernestine Robinson; two nieces, Kaye Dunn (Terry) Willis of Bowling Green and Anne Dunn (George) Martin of Ormond Beach, Fla.; three great-nieces, Teresa (Eric) Smith-Willis of Key West, Fla., Mary Beth (Rocky) Hudson of Benton and Jan (Jeff) Brock of Ormond Beach; two great-nephews, Tom Martin of Jacksonville, Fla. and Kelly Willis of Hong Kong, China; four great-great nieces; and a great-great-nephew.
    Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. July 5 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Scott Heltsley officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. July 4 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Central City First Christian Church or the Central City Lioness Club.


Jayla Jean Goodwin and Jada Ann Goodwin

    GREENVILLE – Jayla Jean Goodwin and Jada Ann Goodwin, infants, died Saturday, June 30, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County June 30, 2007, they were the daughters of Aubrey Goodwin and Kim Maple, both of Greenville. Survivors also include two sisters, Destiny Maple and Brooklyn Goodwin, both of Greenville; a brother, Tyler Goodwin of Greenville; grandparents, Wendell and Donna Allen and George and Roxana Cottrell, all of Greenville; and great-grandparents, Denny and Margaret Free of Dunmor and Dorothy Cottrell of Greenville. They were preceded in death by their grandmother, Lois Wells.
    Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. July 2 at Graham Cemetery in Graham with the Rev. Tom Carroll officiating.


Miriam Adelle Wimberly

    GREENVILLE – Miriam Adelle Wimberly, 83, died Saturday, June 30, 2007 at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville following a lengthy illness.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Oct. 16, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Shellie Eugene Hardison and Maude Groves Hardison. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and enjoyed gospel singing, as well as sharing laughter and love with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Engene "Mutt" Wimberly, a daughter, Beverly Wedding, and a grandson, Joey Vincent.
    Survivors include a daughter, Jean (Johnny) Vincent of Greenville; a son, Jim (Pam) Wilhite of Mt. Washington; a sister, Helen Jernigan of Burgin, Ky.; nine grandchildren, Brooklyn Vincent and Joy and Terry Wedding, all of Greenville, Kim Head of Atlanta, Ga., Christine Wilhite, Laura Wilhite, Kathy Wilhite, Allen Wilhite and Jeremy Wilhite, all of Louisville; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. July 4 at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Terry Groves officiating. Burial followed in Vernal Grove Cemetery in Depoy.


Katie Long Johnston

    ELKTON – Katie Long Johnston, 88, died Sunday, July 1, 2007 at Jennie Stuart Hospital in Hopkinsville.
    Born in Todd County March 24, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Walter Thomas Long and Mary Jane Allison Long. She was a homemaker and a very active member of Lone Star General Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John Carley Johnston March 4, 2003, and two sisters, Lola Powell and Mary Lou Wolf.
    Survivors include her children, Wayne (Sissy) Johnston of Gastonia, N.C., Elnora (Forest) Sherrod, Dorothy (Ray) Boggess and Carl (Wanda) Johnston, all of Greenville, Tommy (Janice) Groves of Hopkinsville and Sandra (Rick) Carringer of Apex, N.C.; 19 grandchildren, Barry Johnston, Johnny Johnston, Hans Johnston, Michael Johnston, Susan Majors, Libby Cobb, Brent Sherrod, Loretta Drake, Debbie Hayward, Jeff Drake, Tracey Skipworth, Paul Thomas Groves, David Groves, Mark Groves, Phillip Groves, Stephanie Alvis, Jeremy Johnston, Katie Carringer and Connie Carringer; 28 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dalton Long of Hopkinsville.
    Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. July 4 at Lone Star General Baptist Church in Greenville with the Rev. Curtis Yarbrough officiating. Burial followed in Lone Star Cemetery. Gary's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
