Shirley Ann Collins

    NAPLES, FLA. – Shirley Ann Collins, 69, formerly of Dayton, Ohio, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007.
    She worked as an LPN at Physicians Regional Hospital in Naples. She was an avid book reader and enjoyed cooking.
    Survivors include her daughter, Deborah (Michael) Heisey of Naples; eight grandchildren, Trevor, Justin, Jonah, Jackson, Graci, Jacqueline, Jon Claude and Connor; and many other relatives and friends.
    Fuller Funeral Home in Naples was in charge of arrangements.




Lillian Alice Davis

    BREMEN – Lillian Alice Davis, 84, died Monday, July 2, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Dec. 3, 1922, she was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Davis in 2002; a great-grandchild, Luke Ezra Vincent; and two brothers, Truman Stobaugh and Courtland Stobaugh.
    Survivors include two sons, Dewayne Davis and Mike Davis, both of Bremen; three daughters, Joan Brown of St. Charles, Mo., Diane Delashmit of Bowling Green and Cheryl Gray of Bremen; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Maxwell Stobaugh of Bremen and Rondal Stobaugh of Evansville, Ind.; and a sister, Leverne Wood of Louisville.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. July 5 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Revs. Steve Delashmit and Dan Yeager officiating. Burial followed in New Harmony Cemetery in Bremen.


Mary Sue Gregory

    CALHOUN – Mary Sue Gregory, 93, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at Riverside Manor in Calhoun.
    She spent most of her life as a resident of Sacramento and retired after 29 years as a cook at Sacramento Elementary School. She was a member of New Cypress Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Gregory and two daughters, Betty Smith and Shirley Oldham.
    Survivors include her granddaughter and family, Deborah, Jim and Josh DeArmond of Greenville and three grandchildren, Sondra, Steven and June Ann Oldham of Indiana; and two great-grandchildren, Mark and Felicia.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. July 5 at Tucker Funeral Home in Sacramento with the Rev. Tommy Drury officiating. Burial followed in Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery.


James T. "J.T." Williams

    MADISONVILLE – James T. "J.T." Williams, 84, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
    Born in Greenville Sept. 2, 1922, he was the son of the late Clifton Williams and Elizabeth Taylor Williams. He was a retired Hopkins County Extension Agent for 20 years and before that in other Kentucky counties. He was a member of Madisonville First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Williams Jan. 11, 2001 and a sister, Martha Lynn Williams.
    Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Hopper Williams; two sons, James "J.B." Williams of Louisville and John Williams of Phoenix, Ariz.; three step-daughters, Candy Watts of Hanson, Cindy Barnes of Cynthiana and Joni Jones of Madisonville; a sister, Nancy Pogue of Greenville; five grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; three nieces; and two nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. July 7 at Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Dr. Joe Leonard and the Rev. Hughlan Richey officiating. Burial followed in Lexington Cemetery in Lexington.


Kenneth H. Cronin

    TELL CITY, IND. – Kenneth H. Cronin, 85, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at Professional Care Rehabilitation Center in Dale, Ind.
    Born in Tell City Oct. 21, 1921, he was the son of the late Otha and Nancy E. Simpson Cronin. He retired in 1985 from Tell City Chair Company, had formerly worked at Maxon Marine Industries and was a World War II Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherrill Jean Wedding; two sisters, Bessie White and Alice Odell Leehy; and five brothers, Arnie, Chester, Casper "Toddy", Curtis and Archie "Bud" Cronin.
    Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty Jean Terry Cronin; three daughters, June Williams of Kokomo, Ind., Karen Sue Kipling of Central City and Jacqueline Ann Beeler of Richland, Ind.; two sons, Terry "Teapot" Cronin of Rockport, Ind. and Brian Keith Cronin of Greenville; a sister, Sylvia Coultas of Evansville; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. July 8 at Huber Funeral Home in Tell City with the Rev. Paul Alvey officiating. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery in Tell City.


Daniel Earl Brooks

    GREENVILLE – Daniel Earl Brooks, 24, died Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville following a lengthy illness.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Aug. 10, 1982, he worked for Plastic Products in Greenville and was a member of Duvall's Chapel General Baptist Church.
    Survivors include his parents, Dinford Earl Brooks and Louise Stovall Brooks of Greenville; two sisters, Carol Ann Rolley of Powderly and Patricia Lynn Stirsman of Luzerne; four nieces; and two nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. July 8 at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Tim Roberts and Terry Groves officiating. Burial followed in Nebo Cemetery in Greenville.


Shirley May Whitehouse

    Shirley May Whitehouse, 88, long-time resident of Cherry Hill, died Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Maple Manor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Greenville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County May 13, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Helen C. Whitehouse. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
    Survivors include cousins.
    Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. July 9 at Cherry Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Central City with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating.


Lowell Eugene Johnson

    Lowell Eugene Johnson, 62, of Central City, died Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
    Born in Tennessee Feb. 5, 1945, he was a fork-lift driver for Ford Motor Company and was a United States Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Betty Johnson; his father, Olin Johnson; and a brother, Wayne Johnson.
    Survivors include a daughter, Terri Loy of Central City; a step-daughter, Julie Duncan of Florida; a granddaughter, Ashley Ann Brooke Loy; a step-granddaughter, Sarah (Rodger) Light; two step-grandsons, Freddie (Jacqueline) Rowe and James Duncan; his mother, Reba Johnson of Tennessee; three brothers, Nolan Johnson of Illinois, Richard Johnson and Terry Johnson, both of Tennessee; a sister, Judy Wicker of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. July 11 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Paul Uzzle, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.


Murrel Courtland Fortney, Sr.

    Murrel Courtland Fortney, Sr., 81, of Central City, died Friday, July 6, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Sept. 30, 1925, he was the son of the late David and Rachel Fortney. He graduated from Western Kentucky University, attended business school and was retired from the insurance and stocks business. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Central City and was a United States Air Force veteran, having served in World War II.
    Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Fortney; and two sons, Murrel Courtland Fortney, Jr. and Roger D. Fortney, both of Central City.
    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. July 9 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Bob Lowery officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.


Shirley Ann O'Brien

    Shirley Ann O'Brien, 70, died Sunday, July 8, 2007 at her residence in Central City.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Oct. 28, 1936, she was a member of Rockport Christian Fellowship Church.
    Survivors include her husband, Charles W. "Bill" O'Brien; a daughter, Dorothy Goff of Paducah; a step-daughter, Dawn Matter of North Dakota; a grandson; two step-grandsons; three sisters, Shelby Allen of Central City, Dorothy Bullock of Mulkey Town, Ill. and Stella Geisler of Gallatin, Tenn.; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. July 12 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Recie Young officiating. Burial will follow in Echols Cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. July 11 at the funeral home.


James Dwight "J.D." McCluskey

    GREENVILLE – James Dwight "J.D." McCluskey, 53, died Monday, July 9, 2007 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
    Born in Russellville, Ala. Aug. 12, 1953, he was the son of the late James M. and Martha J. Stedham McCluskey. He retired from KenAmerican Resources in 2000 and had previously worked at Pyro Mines for 18 years and Cowden's in the 1970s.
    Survivors include his wife of 29 years and caregiver, Sandra Majors McCluskey; a son, James David McCluskey of Greenville; a daughter, Christina Massey of Greenville; six grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Kirk of Powderly; a brother, Bill Fisher of Powderly; an uncle, Hugh Stedham of Wisconsin; a niece; and three nephews.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. July 12 at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens in Powderly.
