Irvin Filmore Pearson, Sr.

    LEWISBURG – Irvin Filmore Pearson, Sr., 83, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2007.
    Born in Russellville Nov. 27, 1923, he was the son of the late William Bradley Pearson, Sr. and Inez Olivia Dillihay Pearson. He was a retired truck driver and retired from Griffin Industries in Security. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilda Toomey Pearson; a daughter, Mildred Olivia Pearson; two sisters, Queeney Cooksey and Dorothy Williams; and two brothers, William Pearson, Jr. and J.C. Pearson.
    Survivors include four daughters, Tammie Fields of Upton, Ky., Pamela Green of Bowling Green, Tracie Abell of Lewisburg and Twyinia Bryant of Cub Run, Ky.; five sons, Irvin Pearson, Jr. of Elizabethtown, James Lee Pearson of Bushnell, Fla., Mervin Pearson and Irvin Scott Pearson, both of Dunmor and David Pearson of Munfordville; two sisters, Lena Mae Gray of Russellville and Juanita Carlson of Pennsylvania; a brother, John Henry Pearson of South Carolina; 24 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Jan. 4 at Price Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Romines officiating. Burial followed in Dunmor Cemetery in Muhlenberg County.




Larry Ray Yonts


    GREENVILLE – Larry Ray Yonts, 76, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007 in Muhlenberg Community Hospital after several months illness.
    Born in Rosewood March 18, 1930, he was the son of the late Burgess Oliver Yonts and Lady Mae Petrie Yonts. He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Rosewood and Pond River Masonic Lodge #244 in Greenville. He owned/operated trucks and was a timber cutter. He was a former partner in Yonts and Sweeney Stave Company for 23 years and was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Teddy Yonts, Thomas Yonts and twins, Adrian Yonts and Rayburn Yonts.
    Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Nell Sweeney Yonts; three sons, Rep. Brent (Jan) Yonts and Joel (Vicki) Yonts, both of Greenville and Jeff (Sharon) Yonts of Tyewhoppety, Ky.; a daughter, Susan (Scott) Wells of Greenville; nine grandchildren, Emily Yonts of Kansas City, Mo., Ellen (Bryan) Brownfield of Louisville, Harrison Yonts of Murray, Lynn (Susan) Yonts of Elkton, Michael (Kim) Yonts of Beechmont, Bryse Yonts of Bowling Green and Brooklynn Yonts, Jeremy Wells and Kristen Wells, all of Greenville; two step grandchildren, Shawn (Amy) Sweeney of Greenville and Darren Sweeney of Clarksville, Tenn.; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Yonts, Tyler Yonts, Hannah Yonts and Maddie Yonts; and two sisters, Hattie Ruth Rust of Greenville and Carolyn (Paul) Hankins of Rosewood.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 4 at Gary's Funeral Home with the Revs. Danny Mooneyhan, E.W. Greenwalt and Gary McAbee officiating. Burial followed in Greenbrier School House Cemetery in Rosewood. The family requests that contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association.


Christopher Dale Level Murphy

    Christopher Dale Level Murphy, 26, died Jan. 1, 2007 in Nortonville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County March 21, 1980, he was a maintenance worker for National Tank and Tower.
    Survivors include his wife, Janice Griffith Murphy; a son, Levi Murphy of Central City; his mother, Sheila Gossett of Beech Creek; his father, Jeff Murphy of Central City; his grandparents, Margaret and Dennie Free of Dunmor and Gynon Murphy of Central City; two brothers, Shannon Level of Calhoun and Trevor Murphy of Elkhardt, Ind.; and two sisters, Haley Elizabeth Murphy of Central City and Chelsea Gossett of Beech Creek.
    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Jan. 5 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial followed in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City.


Irene Baggett Buchanan

    OWENSBORO – Irene Baggett Buchanan, 82, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Feb. 12, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John Riley and Sarah Elizabeth Kirby Baggett. She was a member of the former Crabtree Avenue Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norris Herman Buchanan and a son, Norris Dewayne Buchanan.
    Survivors include two daughters, Pam Reynolds and Nicki Wahl, both of Owensboro; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 6 at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery in Owensboro.


Dorris Latham

    RUSSELLVILLE – Dorris Latham, 70, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007 at Logan Memorial Hospital of natural causes.
    Born in Rosewood Jan. 19, 1936, he was the son of the late Vernon Ben and Gladys Garrett Latham. He was a farmer and a member of the Olivet Free Will Baptist Church.
    Survivors include a son, Daniel Latham of Auburn; four daughters, Brenda Powell of Clifty, Barbara Purcell of Springfield, Tenn., Melissa Latham of Central City and Tara Latham of Russellville; three brothers, Elvis Latham of Deerlick, Doyle Latham of Rosewood and Drexel Latham of Lewisburg; two sisters, Velma Dukes of Elkton and Deweese Carver Steele of Rosewood; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 5 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. Clell Lucas officiating. Burial followed in Rosewood Methodist Church Cemetery.


Lisa Lane Haley

    LAKE MALONE – Lisa Lane Haley, 26, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007 at Logan Memorial Hospital in Russellville.
    Born in Logan County May 31, 1980, she was the daughter of Henry D. Haley and Sarah "Dolly" Davis Haley of Lewisburg.
    Survivors include her parents; her grandmother, Lena Davis of Clifty; a brother, Justin Bunch of Lewisburg; and three sisters, Audrey Rickman and Debbie Gunderson, both of Adairville and Tammy Palmore of Springfield, Tenn.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 5 at Pleasant Union Baptist Church with the Revs. Chris Freeman and Neil Immel officiating. Burial followed in Wiley's Chapel Cemetery. Latham Funeral Home in Elkton was in charge of arrangements.


Paul Wilkins

    SHELBYVILLE, TENN. – Paul Wilkins, 65, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro.
    Born in Central City Sept. 4, 1941, he was the son of the late Paul Joseph Wilkins and Evelyn Hope Nalley Wilkins. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from TVA after 30 years of service. He was the owner/operator of Richards Cafeteria, a well-known eating establishment in Shelbyville.
    Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mary Ann Wilkins; a son, Paul Wayne Wilkins of Manchester; two daughters, Regina Clem and Lisa W. Davis, both of Elkmont, Ala.; nine grandchildren; and three sisters, Shirley Gloth of Hammond, Ind., Sue Pate of Island and Kathy Postum of Owensboro.
    Funeral services were held at McConnell Funeral Home in Athens, Ala. Feldhaus Memorial Chapel in Shelbyville was in charge of local arrangements.


William H. Walker

    OKEECHOBEE, FLA. – William H. Walker, 82, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007 at Raulerson Hospital.
    Born in Ravenscroft, Tenn., Aug. 26, 1924, he was the son of the late Charles and Anita Walker and had been a residence of Okeechobee for the past 24 years. A graduate of the University of Kentucky, he worked as a Hydrologist in the engineering field, identifying and correcting ground water pollution. He served in the United States Army Air Corps serving in the Military Air Transport during World War II. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Walker and a sister, Frances Walker Brown.
    Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marion C. Walker; three sons, William C. Walker of Cincinnati, Bruce Walker of Indianapolis and Robert S. Walker of Lakeside, Mont.; three sisters, Anita Walker Kornfield of California, Jeanette Walker Tinsley of Central City and Harriett Walker Delnero of Hilton Head, S.C.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
    Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory in Okeechobee was in charge of all arrangements.


Virginia "Jennie" Rose Caskey

    MADISONVILLE – Virginia "Jennie" Rose Caskey, 55, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 at the NHC Healthcare.
    Born in Butler County Jan. 26, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Turpin and Mary Alice Martin Turpin. She was a homemaker and a former surgical technician at Trover Clinic and Bowling Green Medical Center. She was a member of the Yeargins Chapel United Methodist Church in Graham. She was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Delorious Shipley.
    Survivors include her husband, Ricky Dale Caskey; two sons, Clinton Dale Caskey and Casey Justin Caskey, both of Madisonville; six sisters, Martha Alice Hill of Ocean Breeze, Fla., Goldie Marie Lowery of Bowling Green and Anna Mae Pate, Ozinia Rae Smith, Dora Lee Garaway and Hazel Jo King, all of Indianapolis; a brother,  James Calvin Turpin of Indianapolis; her mother-in-law, Louise Caskey of Graham; three brothers-in-law, Bobby Caskey of Madisonville, Tommy Caskey of Greenville and Gerald Caskey of Bowling Green; four sisters-in-law, Sedona Arnett of Greenville, Yvonne Moore of Bowling Green, Patsy Millay of Central City and Cecilia Mallory of Drakesboro.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 7 at Yeargins Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Wayne Thomas and Mike Pitzer officiating. Burial will follow in the Yeargins Chapel Cemetery. Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the Alzheimer's Association or the Yeargins Chapel United Methodist Church building fund.

Buck Locke

    PEORIA, ILL. – Buck Locke, 70, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
    Born in Rella, Ky., Feb. 11, 1936, he was the son of the late Willie Lock and Alice Cornett Lock. He was a retired chef.
    Survivors include three sisters, Wanda Willis of Greenville, Lois Naslund and Barbara Mayes, both of Peoria; two brothers, Al Lock of Russellville and Franklin Lock of Greenville.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 7 at Price Funeral Home, Inc. in Lewisburg with the Rev. Bailey Davie officiating. Burial followed in Heltsley Cemetery in Todd County.


Margaret Taylor Ewing

    OWENSBORO – Margaret Taylor Ewing, 62, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 1007 at Owensboro Medical Health System in Owensboro.
    Born in Muhlenberg County Feb. 6, 1945, she was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.
    Survivors include her husband, Horace Ewing; two step-daughters, Ellie Allen of Livermore and Sherry Goodman of Island; a step-son, Harold Ewing of Wisconsin; two sisters, Wanda Davis of Livermore and Ethel Taylor of Henderson; three brothers, Phillip Taylor of Evansville, Roy Taylor of Greenville and Noah Taylor of Livermore; and six grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Jan. 9 at Tucker Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Taylor officiating. Burial followed in Island Methodist Cemetery.


Ollie B. Slaughter Blake

    RUSSELLVILLE – Ollie B. Slaughter Blake, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 at Creek Place Nursing Home in Russellville after a lengthy illness.
    Born in Todd County June 20, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Edward Slaughter and Myra Roberts Slaughter. She was a housewife and homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
    Survivors include a son, Steve Blake of Hopkinsville; a daughter, Bernice Payton of Louisville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
    Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Jan. 8 at Slaughter Cemetery in Clifty with the Rev. Kris Freeman officiating. Gary's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Dorothy Belle Reeves

    Dorothy Belle Reeves, 84, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007 at Hill Crest Nursing Home in Owensboro.
    Born in Muhlenberg County May 20, 1922, she was a homemaker and a member of Central City United Methodist Church.
    Survivors include her husband, Benton Reeves; three sons, Boyce (Michele) Reeves of Seabrook, Texas, Bill (Barbara) Reeves of Athen, Ohio and Bob (Sheri) Reeves of Owensboro; two sisters, Eva Sweeney and Imogene Moore, both of Greenville; two sisters-in-law, Ima Gossett of Greenville and Lenora Gossett of Rosewood; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 9 at Rosewood Methodist Church with the Rev. Brent Waltrip officiating. Burial followed in Rosewood Methodist Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy can be made to the Rosewood Methodist Cemetery, 451 Sherwood Point, Greenville, KY  42345. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Mildred Lee Boggess Wilcox

    SACRAMENTO – Mildred Lee Boggess Wilcox, 88, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007 at  Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
    Born in Muhlenberg County, she was a homemaker and a member of New Harmony Baptist Church in Bremen.
    Survivors include two daughters, Dorris Wright of Sacramento and Faye (Barney) Mitchell of Greenville; two grandchildren, Greta Wright and Tim Wright, both of Sacramento; and a sister, Velma Roe of Central City.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 9 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Whitworth officiating. Burial followed in Briar Creek Cemetery.


Willie Justice, Jr.

    GREENVILLE – Willie Justice, Jr., 61, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007 at Owensboro Medical Health System in Owensboro.
    Born in Pike County June 28, 1945, he worked for Amax Coal Co., Natomas Coal Co., Diamond Shamrock Coal Co. and Arch on the Green Coal Co., all at the same location due to company sellouts from 1969-1988. He was a trooper with the Kentucky State Police from 1967-1969 and in the United States Air Force from 1963-1967. He was the former Muhlenberg County Jailer for 13 years, during which time he oversaw the planning and construction of the Muhlenberg County Jail in 2001. He was a life member of the V.F.W., a member of the Greenville Lions Club and of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Central City. He was preceded in death by a son, Fred Justice.
    Survivors include his wife, Mary Simons Justice; two sons, Keven Justice of Dexter, Mo. and Tommy Justice of Greenville; five grandchildren, Brennen, Katie, Reece, Emily and Ethan; and three brothers, Clayton Justice and Randall Justice, both of South Field, Mich. and Roger Justice of Tampa, Fla.
    Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Jan. 10 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Ben Luther officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of donations to the Greenville Lions Club, Trooper Island or the St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
