Suns gain last-second win over Ohio County

A last-second shot by senior Tyler Smith capped
off an 18-2 run and pushed Muhlenberg South to victory over district
rival Ohio County Jan. 2.
Richard Carver led the Suns with 14 points and Logan
Matheney and Ryan Maxwell added eight rebounds each in the 44-42 win.
Alex Embry led the Eagles with 18 points.

Short-handed Stars pound McLean
GREENVILLE – McLean County has turned some heads around
the 3rd Region with its play in the beginning of the 2006-07 season and
figured to present a challenge to Muhlenberg North with seven regulars
unavailable to Stars’ head coach Steve Sparks for Friday’s 10th District
tilt.
Instead, the Stars’ defense held the Cougars to just
seven points in the first quarter and rolled past McLean County 81-66
at MNHS.

Lady Suns defeat Breckinridge Co. 57-44

The Lady Suns secured a victory over the visiting Breckinridge
County Lady Tigers Jan. 5, rounding out a winning night for South in a
boy-girl doubleheader.
Kayla Engler led the Lady Suns with 20 points and eight
rebounds. Courtney Jones earned 13 points and Macy Smith added 11
to South’s 57-44 win.
Tina Brown led Breck with 15 points.

Sparks signs with S.L. Benfica in Portugal
LISBON, PORTUGAL – Former University of Kentucky and
Muhlenberg North standout Patrick Sparks has signed to play professionally
with S.L.Benfica, one of the top clubs in the Portuguese Basketball League.
Sparks’ signing was announced on December 28 on the team’s website.
The 23-year-old Central City native replaces guard
Francisco Rodrigues on the team’s roster. Rodrigues suffered a broken
foot recently and will be out until the end of the season.
