Central Dispatch receives highest marks in state

    Muhlenberg County has the only emergency dispatch office in the state to receive a 100-percent audit from the state Department of Criminal Justice.
    Muhlenberg County Central Dispatch is required to receive an audit each year because the employees receive Telecommuni-cator Professional Standards testing from the Law Enforcement Council.

Greater Muhlenberg Chamber ends first year on happy note



The first president of the Greater Muhlenberg Chamber of Commerce Dean Rowe shares a moment with faculty and staff from Madisonville Community College at the chamber’s December meeting. Rowe will be handing over the reins to current vice president E.A. Gentry for 2007. Sara Adams, assistant professor of music at MCC, provided entertainment in song for the chamber luncheon and Judy Adkins, MCC job placement coordinator and John Peter, MCC advancement director, provided updates on the college and the Muhlenberg County Campus during the meeting.

Franklin Circuit Judge hears more arguments on Thoroughbred Plant


    FRANKFORT — A judge heard arguments from lawyers for Peabody Energy and the Sierra Club over the air permit for the proposed Thoroughbred Energy Campus planned for Central City.
    The Dec. 21 arguments were the next step in the state’s longest air permit legal battle.

Muhlenberg Native to compete in world famous dog sled race

    The black nights and wind-beaten days of the Alaskan outback are a far cry from Terry Adkins’s boyhood in Graham, but no matter what the climate, he returns to it each year to spend two weeks racing his Alaskan Huskies across the jagged terrain in the Iditarod sled dog race.
    The race, which covers more than 1,100 miles, began March 3, 1973. Adkins, who was stationed in Alaska with the U.S. Air Force, was asked to be the veterinarian for the first race.

Long-lost cousins find each other through history annex

    When Ivan Tucker, 80, of Greenville made a phone call to the Muhlenberg County local history annex to ask a question earlier this year, he never dreamed he would talk to a long-lost relative.
    “I called about another subject, and while I was talking to Connie Wallace, she said ‘There is someone here you might want to talk to’,” he said. “And my cousin George, who I haven’t seen for more than 70 years, picked up the phone.”

State money heads to county courthouse, Paradise Park

    The Muhlenberg Fiscal Court will receive an additional $200,000 in state funding for installation and dome repair at the county courthouse.
    The General Assembly has allocated more than $900,000 for the project since it was first funded in 2000. The latest funds have been approved for release by the Government Contract Review Committee co-chaired by state Rep. Brent Yonts of Greenville.
